What's a Smile?
by

Danielle Dobinson

What's a smile but a disguise,
If you want to see the soul then look into the eyes,
A child who doesn't shed a tear,
Holds a secret that they fear.

There is no word that describes,
The hurt someone feels when there's betrayal and lies,
Silence; Silence is a word all of it's own,
It doesn't necessarily mean that persons alone.

You can listen to silence,
And there need no reply,
You give silence back,
And you both understand why.

To hide your feelings,
You hide your fears,
To hide your fears,
You don't show tears.

These words are feelings that cannot be shown,
Not by a smile or a tear because they're words of their own.
