Tears in Heaven by Elaine Hardtby Elaine Hardt

"God will wipe away their tears" Revelation 7:17 and 21:4.

The scene is Heaven, and God is there. Why are people crying?

Scripture is not explicit on many things we'd like to know, but consider this.

When we get to Heaven we will look for our loved ones, our friends, and people we have witnessed to. We will be very happy, and even surprised to see certain people, but others whom we expected or hoped to see in Heaven will not be there. There will be tears in Heaven.

Two Judgments in Heaven
Everyone who ever lived will be judged.
God has one judgment for the believers, one judgment for the unbelievers.

The Saved: Believers will be judged for their good works that they did after being saved. Perhaps there will be tears at that judgment because we will realize to our shame that we could have done so much more for our dear Lord. We will see all the opportunities we missed. We will weep for ourselves.

The Lost: Those who rejected or neglected to receive Christ will be judged. Their lives will be reviewed and open for all to see. Every mercy and goodness shown by God, every time the Holy Spirit wooed the errant soul, and every stubborn prideful act, every rebellion is all in God's record

We will see the judgment of the persons we loved and cared for. We will see all the opportunities they spurned. We will agree with God that in His justice and holiness the unbelievers made their own choice.
Our tears will fall, but He Himself will tenderly wipe them from our eyes.

The lost will not be remembered.
After God wipes away our tears of sadness He will give us the gift of forgetting.
"And the LORD said unto Moses, Whosoever hath sinned against Me, him will I blot out of My book."Exodus 3:33
"The memory of him perishes from the earth; he has no name in the land." (NM) Job l8:l7
"The face of the LORD is against those who do evil, to cut off the memory of them from the earth." (Niv)Psalm 14:16
"He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from off all faces. . ."Isaiah 25:8
"For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind."Isaiah 65:17,

Nothing will mar our joy with Him.

God's Word holds out to us this blessed promise. The memory of the lost will perish; we will not remember the names or the lives of those who are sent to the place of eternal separation from God. Hell will be emptied and the Lake of Fire is the destination of the lost.

There will be nothing to mar our enjoyment in the New Jerusalem and the new earth. Whatever may await us we can trust our Father to do all things well. Whatever He does is right and just. He does not punish anyone without cause.

Although it is very hard to think of it now we will be in perfect agreement with God as He removes them from His presence.

What can we do now?

Let us go to the Bible and invite the Holy Spirit to guide and teach us.

* We must know that God does not want any to perish, and has done all He can do to woo them to eternal life with Him.

* We can pray for the lost to hear and respond to God's invitation to life.

* We can ask God to give us opportunities to share the Gospel with the lost.

* We can rest in knowing that God is just, and He makes no mistakes.

Hell shows how terrible sin is, and also shows us how merciful God is. We have all sinned and we all deserve Hell.

Jesus came to earth and died for our sins so we need not be eternally lost. Believers have been saved from a horrible fate, a fate of each person's own choosing. To receive Christ is to gain an eternity of joy and happiness, spent in His presence.

God makes no mistakes.

To come to the end of our earthly life, and to enter into the solemn, holy presence of God Himself, will be an awesome event. We will praise and adore our Lord who made it possible for our sins to be forgiven. He will wipe away our tears.
