Amos Did Prophesy
A herdsman from Tekoa, in the land of Judah, found favor in the eyes of God. In a land that had no lacking, full lives, and more still packing, through its midst Amos did trod.
Israel's sins piled up high. If layered, they'd touch the sky.
So, prophets God did call. With Amos positioned here, he helped pioneer it all.
He was native to the Southern Kingdom. But the Northern realm heard his harsh words.
So, in Amos time to the nation divided 170 years ago; by the Holy Spirit his words did flow.
His 8 prophecies failed. Three sermons prevailed. But no turning back to God's ways. Prosperity filled their days.
Two kings reigned in the land: Uzziah of Judah parts, Jeroboam II in Israel's heart.
And in the land, God roared and thundered His voice but the Israelites didn't heed. Amos's message they didn't believe. (Even when Amos intervened to God on their behalf to keep grasshoppers and a fire from the land, they would have devoured.)
Amos cried, "How can Jacob survive? They are so small." and God heard Amos's call.
Still judgment was due by means of a plumb line. They'd be destroyed like bad fruit on the vine.
Amaziah didn't like the gloom that Amos passed along. Amaziah told Amos this was treason; enough talk for this season. So move along.
God served with justice. He had had enough! Amos tried to tell them, to show them, but they still didn't believe. They didn't heed.
They could run to and fro searching for God's word. But they wouldn't find it. They would not find God's word. They now wanted to know.
Aha! Hope would come as God would save a remnant. David's Dynasty would be restored, and Amos told them all. Still, most didn't believe. Those who did, He would sieve from the evil ones.
The exiles would have eternal peace. They would have an eternal home. And Amos told them all, but only the remnant believed. Now, they would have justice and enduring love From their Savior that watched from above.
