Lighter Side of New Year
The black eyed peas are cooking.
Auld Lang Syne fills the air.
I've got the Alka Seltzer, waiting
For the headache I know will be there.
The fireworks will not stop popping.
Shouts of Happy New Year will blast.
The noise will kill my ear drums
And make hearing a thing of the past.
I'll raise my glass and drink a toast
To all my endless resolutions.
I'll eat the peas and take Gas-X
For one of my quick fix solutions.
Then, I'll say, "Good night," to all
And I'll slip quietly off to bed.
For, I've had enough excitement
And New Year's bubbles filling my head.
