| The Flame |
|
Out of the blackness, The charring, the smoke - Out of the charcoal wood, The gnarling, the twisting The broken burnt branch - Out of the burning Comes something good. We question the fire. We question the wind. We question the hurt. Why the suffering And why get burnt? For it all seems so wrong From the view that we see. There is nothing gained And not even learned. For, where is there value And where is there care? Nothing is sacred And all is but hatred. We live on the edge ... With little to share. For, where is there hope, Within all this blackness? How can good come - Green come from this valley, This dark lonely valley That's so full of deadness? Come from that darkness. Come close to Me. Come close to my loving heart. There's warmth for you. There's food for you, At My welcoming hearth. Come in from the cold. Come in from the heat, Away from the sharp, Away from the steep. Just lay your head down And let go of the pain, For you'll be safe, here. Come, lay down to sleep. For, there is no shame. I felt all the flame, Let it over me roll, Let it burn at my heart, Let it tear at my soul. I cried in its blackness. I cried out in pain. I suffered its deadness, The scorching hot flame, All the cold hateful wind; The gnarling, the twisting That burnt me within - To save you from night, I fought in that darkness ... The cruelty of man's hardness, That barred out the light. Out of that blackness And out of that strife, The gnarling, the twisting, The cold broken life That light is now shining ... Shining so true, Shining with brightness, Shining for you. Now, out from the ashes, New life will emerge Like a spring flower With soft lovely hue ... But with new color And with new power. For, the old wood is burnt. It is burnt right through. It has no more use. There's no damaged you. For, you are all gone. The old you is dead, With nothing to say, With nothing to dread. The past is all gone, With its worry and fear. You're safe from the night. I hold you, so tight, In everlasting light. |
