That's Who We Are
We're the Mom and Dad of our children, no matter the age.
We will always love you, through parental love or rage.
We brought you up, nurtured you from our very heart.
Nothing, in this world, could tear our love from you apart.
We watched you grow. We loved you so. We were in awe.
Nothing is so beautiful as first a little girl, now a tiny little boy of joy.
Thank you for enriching our lives, for sharing our home.
But, now, when you leave, we pray it's not far you roam.
The bath won't look the same, without a little girl wrapped in suds.
But, one day, she'll grow up and boys will be bringing her rose buds.
This little one coming will alter our lives for the best.
We'll always remember him as being born here, in our nest.
It's a joy that we could help, as you gave us love and trust.
So, one day, when you aren't here, a tear will fall. It must.
For we shall miss you all so, but we'll learn to be on our own again,
As surely as after the thunder, there will be rain.
But, it will never wash away the happy days of your being here
And, in our hearts, your faces will always be so very near.
May God Bless you, out on your own again; keep you, from above,
As we sit here, each night, and remember the good times, with love.
For, God made us parents and grandparents.
That's who we are.
