The accounts of Mark and Luke are from the New Testament which is part of the Bible. The New Testament was first written in the Greek language. But these Gospels have been written in easy, worldwide English, so that many more people can read and understand them. There are altogether four accounts of the life of Jesus, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Each was written by a different follower of Jesus and give a different view point about the life of Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ was sent by God 2000 years ago in a country called Judea, the land of the Jews, which today is called Israel. The accounts tell about what Jesus said and also what he did to make people well. And they tell us a lot about the last week before Jesus was nailed to a cross to die. They end where Jesus comes to life again and goes back to heaven to be one with his Father God.
His teaching has now spread all over the world. Millions of people have been given a new life from God by following Jesus and his teachings. The Good News is that God loves us, and sent his Son, Jesus, to die for us. It means that all people everywhere who believe in God and follow Jesus will have everlasting life with him.
The Bible has another part as well as the New Testament. It is the Old Testament. The Old Testament (which we call 'the holy writings') was written before Jesus lived on earth. Jesus knew these writings, and often spoke about them in his teachings.
A list of Bible words at the end of this book helps to make clear any difficult English words and ideas which you may find in the New Testament.
