For the Seven who died
February 1, 2003

Through the stars our minds had leapt
Into the galactic realm
Rocketing through the vacuum where no life exists
And thoughts are our only home
The brave there toil to expand our knowledge
Risking all for the chance of epic discovery
To see the stars with their own eyes
And look down on Earth like deities
The spirit of exploration will never falter
And sorrow only strengthens our desire
To carry the soul of humanity out into the cosmos
You will not be there for the crowning moment
But your sacrifice will reverberate
Through the chambers of Cape Caniveral
Over the stargazers in the endless desert
Echoing gently in the hearts of future space farers
Carry on you shepherds of the stars
And may you rest in the heart of the universe
The place you loved enough to die for
You have seen visions of existence that most will never witness
But your children will never hear the tales
Of your glorious mission
You will not fade or diminish from memory
For you are truly creatures of the stars
Bathed in glory by a worried blue sky
As you fell the Earth could do naught but cry
