Dear Dying Rose
by

Ranya Ahmed

I see your scarlet, struggling, shriveling petals
Defying time
Fighting for a lost cause immortality
Facing inevitable defeat.

No one knows why roses are symbols
Of supposed true, eternal love
Trying to be endless,
But realizing in the end, that the feeling will die.

Why do you fight
My dear dying rose?
Give in to nature, do not live in purgatory!
Let death take its course!

You are so fragile!
Your petals are so easily plucked,
Your thorns unable to drive people away.
Forgive us for robbing you of your life.

Your mysterious crimson wonder,
Astounds the mind
And your dazzling appearance
Blinds the eye.

My dear dying rose
I beg of you,
I beg of you,
Give in!
