| FIRST LOVE | by Jacklynn MacKenzie |
| We carved our names in a large oak tree, Out at Trout Brook, near a cemetary-- I went back time after time, Still saw your name right next to mine.
Though years had changed the etching there,
I knew you loved me from the start,
Far, far away you went,
Kindness and gentleness was your way,
I remember the first time I saw your face-
Time goes by and the years wrinkles bring,
It is said that time cannot steal
Other loves come to brighten our days,
The love I have now is different from yours,
Though I've wandered away, now I'm home to stay,
When I feel he doesn't care, or that he's unfair,
No, my first love I will never forget, |
