I am HereBy
Sharon Niese

How long ago has it been since I could really see?
Minutes, hours, day, and years have passed by me.
I look in the mirror and there is a stranger, not me.
My eyes are dim and my hearing not what it should be.

My mind is clear; my words are not.
No one really cares a lot.
Since I am old, I have been cast away.
No one even listens to what I say.

Please look at me when you speak
I may be frail and weak
But, I am alive; not dead.
I can understand what is said.

Leave me some dignity and pride
As I finish this walk of mine.
I pray the Lord reveals this to you
For you one day will grow old too.
