| I was Born with a Veil by Joyce Elaine Morris |
|
I was born with a veil, a caul. In essence, that's what my mother said. Some call it a cowl: others a cawl. This makes me special because of the call. Essentially, that's what my mother said. At first, it did. I possess the gift. I know your future, I know your past. I see things that you cannot see Whether I want to or not. "Blessed are the eyes which see The things that you see. Many prophets and kings have desired To see what you see." Fundamentally, that's what my mother read. Consecrated eyes witness your future; And, discerning eyes inspect your past. Weird and wonderful from unfamiliar realms I see the mortal, the departed, and the dread. Anomalous and daunting, You keep me awake, and in sleepless dreams, You keep me afraid. Who culled me? Who called me? Was it the other side of light, The source of my fears and anxieties? Principally, that's what my mother said. Hooded, wielders, gory, and vile, I'm Constantly besieged by your arduous weight Crushing my chest, as I struggle to scream. But I cannot scream: slight sounds can be uttered, but I cannot yell; I cannot breathe. "When that happens, call on God." Effectively, that's what my mother said. So I call on Him and watch your recoil. Just a mere whisper of his name Triggers your flight. Ferocious fights, left me scarred but fighting fit. Pungent shadows still lie in wait, Suspended shadows eclipsed by time Taunting me keeping me under surveillance Culling me; calling me, because of the caul. |
