KEEPER OF THE LIGHTHOUSE
The time to say "Goodbye" has come. I know not how
To speak that foreign, brokenhearted word ...
When day-to-day, I uttered, "Welcome home," and now
Forever speak, "Goodbye," and must be ever heart.

The years have melted into nothing I discern
And, familiar though you were, a stranger now you be.
When did you change, my love, was't when my back was turned?
Or, is the stranger in the mirror only me?

Memories and dreams are all I have of you.
Like sand, they sift unmeasured through my empty hands.
Like stones, they weigh upon my heart, and not a few.
I pant, with labored breath, against that anchored band.

As morning follows night, I seek the sun's bright rays
To cancel out the darkness in my soul and, out
Beyond myself, I see a Lighthouse raised above
The raging storm where I am cruelly tossed about.

I lift my head and open salty eyes to seek
That beaming shaft of hope. Did I mistake the sight?
I tread the ocean's tears 'til I am gravely weak
With icy numbness. Pray I might survive the night.

Finally morning broke and, with an artist's brush,
The Keeper of the Lighthouse stroked the eastern sky.
I heard Him whisper comfort in the dawning's hush.
Earnestly, I listened to His wise advice.

He told me I must turn my eyes from yesterday
And build upon the strength He has instilled in me.
The stones that weighed me down, I now am standing on.
He has unlocked the doors and handed me the keys.
