| The New Road by Robert H. Gilbert Jr |
|
I prayed to Almighty God, Many years ago, As I watched you walk away. If He gave me the chance, again, To hold you in my arms, I would never let you go. We traveled different roads in our lives. There were many dips, potholes, And bumps along the way. We crossed many bridges, With muddy water Running underneath. With each step we took, We collected our own memories; Some good and some bad. We were never sure Which outweighed the other. I walked on this lonely highway With the collection Of memories of you. I decided to put those memories in a suitcase, In a special place in my heart, And throw away the key. I knew they would be safe there. I did not know, til years later, That our roads, in life, Would meet at a dead end. |
