Daniel's Broken Heart

What I wouldn't give
To take away the sadness in your eyes,
When you search, room to room, for mommy;
Before you hope flickers and dies.

And, when you discover
She isn't here, today;
How my heart aches with yours,
When you know she didn't stay.

If I could wipe away
The soft tear upon your cheek
When you couldn't find her
The mommy that you seek ...

I only hope you will, someday,
Understand and love her all the more,
And forget the heart aches you felt
When she went out the door.

At night, while you sleep,
Pawpa and I cry for your pain.
If we could, we surely would
Bring her back to you, again.

Each day, our prayer
Is for her to hurry back
And fill your little life with
The mommy's love you lack.

She doesn't mean to hurt you.
She is just so confused.
Your father left her to face the world
And left her badly used.

Hope still lives, within her mind,
Of a life for you both, someday.
For your sake, our little one,
That is what we pray.

But, meanwhile we can only watch
As you grieve what used to be.
I wish I had a magic word to make
You two, again, a real family.

We can keep you clean and fed,
Safe and warm, and see your needs are met.
All this we can do for you,
But, there is something missing, yet.

I can hold you and
Wipe away your tear-filled eyes.
But, I'm not the sweet face you want
Or upon which your heart relies.

You are so little to carry
The burden that you bear,
As you daily seek and call
For a mommy that isn't there.

O little one, my heart is broke
To see you in such despair.
It's the silent tears you shed.
For a lack of words, it is all so unfair.

Maybe, tomorrow, she will come back
To your little waiting arms and
Be enthralled with your love, like us,
And enjoy your growing charms.

So, let me hold you, for just a while,
And rock you off to sleep.
We pray the angels to surround you
And for hope in your heart to keep.

If I could capture happiness
For the path that you must trod ~
But, for now, we just dry the tears
And leave the rest to God.

Daniel has been with us six months and it has been a tearful, and yet, sometimes, very joyful encounter. The fact that he is still with us, we feel so blessed. We still wonder, every morning, if, today, they will say we can't do it any more.

He is a good boy, most of the time, and, when he is having a bad day, we try to understand the frustration he must be feeling.

His mommy needs time to find herself before she can be a mother for him. She is missing so many wonderful things as Daniel explores his world and learns new things.

I would ask that you keep Daniel in your prayer and his mommy, that some day, real soon, they will be back together again. The hardest thing is seeing the sadness in his eyes and not being able to bring him relief.

I would move heaven and hell for him. But, only God can make all this possible and I know He is able. Thanks.
