Feed My Sheep

In the Book of John
"Peter," said the Lord, one day,
"Do you love me?"
"You know I do, Lord. Need I have to say?"
"Then, feed my sheep,"
Was His command to him.
Peter, puzzled over the asking,
As Christ ask him, again ...
"Do you love me, Peter?"
"Yea, Lord, You know I do."
"Then, if you answer truly,
I ask then, again, of you."
Peter felt cast down, in his spirit,
As he was told, again, "Feed my sheep."
Peter's word was his vow
That he would try to keep.
"Feed my sheep.
But, you must understand,
Because you follow in my way.
Your death will be in demand.
Because they hated me,
They will hate you all the more.
You will be tempted to run and hide.
Things will not be as before.
Satan will come against you.
You will be persecuted in my name.
Can you feed my sheep then, Peter,
And to be no earthly gain?
Then, follow me."
The question is still, today,
"Will you feed my sheep?
Is my love for you enough,
Even when sorrow is all you reap?
Are you ready to follow
Where I call you, in love,
Telling of my sacrifice
To fit them for above?
Keep telling of my love
And victory over the tomb.
Urgent will be the message,
For I am coming soon."
Hear Him as He pleads to you.
Tell them of His love, so deep.
Tell them, without ceasing.
"If you love me, feed my sheep."
