The Coming Of The Holy Spirit

As Christ ascended into heaven,
He said a Comforter would come in power,
Gather your selves together and wait
Until the appointed hour.

So, they entered the upper room
(The faithful, the frightened, the new);
Watching, praying for what they wondered,
What was it that they should do.

They did as He commanded,
Not really knowing what would be.
They began to fast and pray,
Wondering what would they soon see?

As they prayed and waited,
They were in one accord.
Then, it came, like the sound
Of a mighty rushing wind;
The power of the Lord!

There appeared, out of heaven,
Cloven tongues of fire ~ it came.
It fell upon them all,
The Holy Spirit by name.

He embolden the timid and fearful.
Peter began to preach the word.
Languages that were spoken. unknown;
But every one, in their own tongue, had heard.

The Spirit was upon the open and willing;
Proclaiming how their daughters would prophesy,
How young men would have visions, and
The old would dream dreams ~ those such as I.

There will be wonders in the heavens
And on the earth, here, below.
Knowledge would increase and grow,
For all who would seek to know.

Such was spake by Peter
As he preached, by the Holy Spirit, power;
As they, from the upper room,
Received at the appointed hour.

The Holy Spirit, from the heart of God,
Came on Pentecost, the church, to establish, there;
Filling all believers that seek Him.
He is the power of the church, in prayer.

He calls for you, today,
"Meet me in the morning hours,
While the day is fresh and new;
Before the day's business
Makes its demands upon you.

For, this is the time I want
For you to set apart, this hour,
So that I may teach and lead you;
And endue you with My power."

~ My Reply ~

"Come, sweet Spirit of God.
Fill my waiting heart.
Teach me, lead me, endue me.
Set me, now, apart.

Tender my heart to Thy wooing.
Let my ears hear You, only, now.
Close the door to the outside world.
Teach me to witness to the dying, teach me how.

As it was in that upper room,
Come with flaming tongues of fire.
Fit me for thy service
Create, in me, a burning desire.

Holy Spirit, cleanse me
And renew a right spirit within.
Open my eyes to confess
Every hidden sin.

Make my heart that upper room,
Prepared for your coming, in prayer.
Let this be my Pentecost.
Come quickly, sweet Spirit.

I will meet you there."
