God Saved Her Life |

Have you ever wondered how in the world you were going to make it through another day? Have you ever felt as if no one cared? I would imagine that every single person alive on the face of this earth has experienced thoughts such as these at some point and time in their lives. We all have struggles, but if we keep our focus on those things that really matter, we will come to the realization that God does exist and He has a wonderful plan for every one of us. He is a God who loves and a God who cares. Growing up, I found myself having to deal with issues that other children my age normally didn't have to deal with. In April of 1946, my mother was involved in a terrible one-car accident. She was only 15'½ at the time. The vehicle that she was a passenger in, swerved to the right, and hit a cement bridge head on. The car engine came through the dashboard and ended up sitting on my mom's legs and pelvis area. She was completely pinned in the vehicle until several strong men were able to lift the engine and pull her out of the mangled mess of metal and iron. She was immediately taken to the hospital where she ended up in a coma for approximately seven days. She received several blood transfusions and the physicians were able to piece her crushed knee back together with 12 huge pins. As a result of her crushed pelvis, she was told that she would never be able to have children. My mom didn't like that information, because she had a mind of her own concerning this particular matter. After being in the hospital for 4 months, she was released to go home where she would remain bedfast for another 5-6 months regaining her strength and learning how to walk all over again. This was not a very pleasant situation for a young beautiful teenage girl to be in. The process was very demanding, intense, long and slow. Night after night, she would cry herself to sleep, her pillow receiving her tears of sadness and shattered dreams. My father began dating my mother in October of 1946. To this day, I think very highly of my dad because of the love that he had for a disabled woman. It takes a special man to fall in love with a special lady. They were married in June of 1947. Though the haunting voices of the physicians could be heard in the back of my mom's mind regarding pregnancy, she refused to listen to their counsel and ended up giving birth to a healthy baby boy on June 14, 1948. Frank Jr. was brought into this world through a cesarean operation. Did my mom stop at this point? Of course not! She told the Lord that she still wanted a girl, so the Lord granted her request and she gave birth to yours truly on July 5, 1955 through another cesarean operation. I thank God that my mom didn't listen to the doctor's advice! If she had, I wouldn't be here today. As a result of my mom's persistent faith, my brother and I are alive and doing quite well. Crutches were my mom's main mode of transporting herself around for 27 years of her life. She also had a bone fusion in her left hip which left her bedfast in a body cast for 6 ½ months. I can remember doing little errands for my mom while she lay in the hospital bed in our living room. I can also remember my dad coming over to her bed, turning her over on her stomach so that she could sleep a little better at night. Although my mom has gone through 16 operations on her hips, legs and knee, she is now able to get around using a walker and a wheelchair. She has been a precious example to me of persevering faith and determination. She has always been there for her family giving sweet words of comfort, love and gratitude. Her smile radiants to others as a testimony of God's faithfulness and love. My father is now in a local healthcare facility not far from our home. I take mom daily to visit with the one whom she dearly loves. The Lord is using both of my parents as a living testimony to the caregivers, nurses and residents in this facility. No matter where we are, God still has purpose for our lives. Even in the darkest hour, God is faithful to be the Light that shines bright within our lives. When Jesus looks down from heaven upon the lives of my parents, I'm sure that He is rejoicing in what He sees. I want you to know, dear reader, that you too have been created by God to fulfill a special purpose in your lifetime. You may have hundreds of questions, but I'm here to tell you that Jesus Christ has all the answers. His love for you is never ending. If you will trust Him, He will see you through the hard times and rejoice with you in the good times. He will never leave you nor forsake you. He's a faithful friend who will stick closer than a brother. You can trust the Lord in all things for He loves and cares for you. |
